Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan 2015 – Review in The Hindu
For radio listeners, the much looked forward broadcast of ‘Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan 2015’ concerts has begun. The first Carnatic recordings broadcast was that of the veena duet concert of the couple Jeyaraaj Krishnan and Jaysri Jeyaraaj Krishnan. In an hour-long recital that was broadcast recently, the couple presented delectable renderings. The duo’s opening piece, Muthuswami Dikshidar’s ‘Parvathi kumaram’ in the raga Nattakurunji itself was very impressive. Even the kalpanaaswaras brief towards the end brought to fore the duo’s depth in the creative music.
The duo then took up Patnam Subramanya Aiyar’s ‘Marivere dikkevariya’ in Shanmukhapriya and Tyagaraja’s ‘Manasu swadhinamaina’ in raga Shankarabharanam for detailed renditions. Whyile Jaysri brought out the features of the former pratimadhyamama raga to the fore, Jeyaraaj brought out the features of the latter Sudhamadhyama raga.
The duo concluded their recital with a Devarnama in raga Durga. Bombay C.N. Balaji on the mridangam and Sharath Koushik on the Ghatam provided understanding support.
